2018 Conference Speaker: Mark Miller

Meeting Mark Miller

Several years ago, we were standing in line at Starbucks inside the Marriott World Center Resort in Orlando, Florida. The setting was beautiful and impressive, but the members of the SLI team were more excited that there was a Starbucks in the hotel. As we waited to order our coffee, we began to chat with a very nice gentleman in line with us. We discovered a common interest in leadership, particularly servant leadership. He then proceeded to buy us our coffee! Did I mention this was at Starbucks, home of the $4 coffee? This kind gentleman was Mark Miller, renowned author, leadership teacher and VP of High Performance Leadership at Chick-fil-A — clearly a servant leader who behaves the talk in large and small ways.

Mark started his Chick-fil-A career in 1977 as an hourly team member. A year later, he joined the corporate staff as employee number 16, dividing his time between the warehouse and mailroom. Since then, Mark has provided leadership in numerous areas, including leadership development. He’s also an accomplished author with more than 900,000 copies of his books in print in 25 languages. His latest book is Leaders Made Here: Building a Leadership Culture. (Link to book on Amazon.)

We are honored to have Mark as a featured speaker at our 2018 servant leadership conference, “Shift into Drive: Navigating Servant Leadership.” He will help us develop our roadmap to implement servant leadership, drawing on his experience in creating more servant leaders at Chick-fil-A. And we’ll be sure to buy him a Starbucks coffee while he’s with us!
